Portland - Maine

If you want to have a great place to get away from the fast paced life while maintaining the pleasures of electricity, then Portland, Maine is where you want to be. Downtown Portland has cobblestone streets, nightlife full of bars and an art scene that is nothing to laugh at.

For an excellent dining experience, DiMillo’s Floating Restaurant is a hot spot in Portland. This restaurant is actually a cruise ship that has been transformed into a restaurant. Of course, if you are in Maine you have to eat sea food. You would be out of your mind if you did not try a Maine Lobster. Don’t worry, DiMillo’s might be a boat, but it does not actually go anywhere.

If you are a sports fan, then the Portland Pirates or the Portland Sea Dogs could be an entertaining event for an evening. Hadlock field is a miniature Fenway. Since the Sea Dogs are our own Red Sox farm team, the field even has a mini green monster.

If you enjoy plays, or musicals, the Portland Stage company will fulfill all of your performance needs. For a good laugh, the Portland Comedy Connection has a wide variety of stand-up comics. Reservations are not required, but suggested for Friday and Saturday evenings. The Comedy Connection is an intimate environment that is guaranteed to make you feel uncomfortable from laughing too hard.

For those who want a unique experience, the Shipyard Brewing Company gives tours of their facility. If you like to try different types of beer, it is recommended to taste their ever-popular pumpkin beer. If you are in the mood to try something really new, the Shipyard Brewing Company brews a very good blueberry beer. It sounds strange to mix the two, but the combination is out of this world.

If you desire taking a day to just relax, Portland holds a great salon and day spa. Debbie Elliott Salon and Day Spa is a four hour trip of relaxation. The atmosphere and their stylists will bring a smile to your face. This is a great way to end the trip and kick off the heels after a long week of shopping.

Now to enjoy your stay a little bit more, you are going to need a great place to rest your head. If you have a little extra cash to throw around, the Embassy Suites Hotel provides a great central location that is close to downtown. However, since you are in Maine you need to be right on the water. Another hotel to check out is the Portland Harbor Hotel. With a wonderful staff, wireless internet and outside roof-top garden, the Portland Harbor Hotel will play a nice role in visit to Portland, Maine.

Portland has shops and restaurants galore, but is still a relaxed environment. It is a perfect place for a weekend, or a lifetime. From great seafood on the beautiful wharf, to laughing at the comedy connection, Portland, Maine is great for a getaway. Maine is the way life should be.
