Getting to Village Kostenets

The roads to Kostenets are in fairly good condition. To get to Village Kostenets, you must travel through the Town of Kostenets; a bustling, thriving town, always full of activity and people.

On a warm day, it is perfect for passing away your free hours in one of the many new cafes.

The main attraction of this town, is the Saturday market: for clothes, household goods, fruit and vegetable stalls and a fairly amazing animal market; where you can find little piggies in the boot of a car, or baby ducks flapping about in a cardboard box.

While driving the 8kms between the Town and Village of Kostenets, magnificent mountains tower in front of your eyes. These are part of the Rila Mountain Range and the intensity of awe that they arouse is very hard to put to paper.

The first sign of your arrival is a locally crafted sign in the Cyrillic alphabet that stands at the right of the road. This village is easy to get around as it is constructed in a circle. The main road will lead you back to where you started.

The centre of the village is beautifully landscaped, with large trees lining the road and the central park filled with flowers. There are two cafes that are perfectly located to relax and watch the world go by.

There is also a quaint little fruit shop that will grind your coffee beans for you; the smell that fills the shop is simply divine.

Across the road there is an infamous 1 lev shop that sells pretty much everything and anything; you'll even find some Christmas decorations in there in during the month of July.

The local church is situated just around the corner. It has stunning architecture that reminds you of a century, long gone. On the top sits a great Stork's nest, which is very important to the people as this signifies clean and healthy air is all around.

A large war memorial stands near by, tall and proud-seeking glory for all those that bravely fought and died. In front of the church are special boards that display pictures of all those recently passed on and the grieving place has a black bow tied upon its gate.

A steep incline up a large hill leads the way to the Villi Zone of the village. Half-way up, there is an outdoor mineral swimming pool filled with happy swimmers and sunbathers. On the opposite side, there is an indoor equivalent; for the braver amongst us that are willing to strip off and bear all.

Hiking Trails From Kostenets

At the end of the road, starts various hiking trails into the Rila Mountains; from the forestry building. One of them, a four-hour hike, leads to Belmeken; the sports complex.

To cool down, there is a fountain with two cold taps. It also has two warm taps that flow natural mineral water.

Along from here is the feature that makes the locals proud: the Kostenets waterfall. The sound of it flowing into the river is so peaceful and relaxing; the perfect place for a picnic.

Follow the river down a long and twisting road and you will be pleasantly surprised when you find the Lake restaurant, 'Ezeroto'. They serve great traditional Bulgarian cuisine such as the Shopska Salad.

After parking you immediately see a large, wood carved majestic bear towering above you. It is one of the many wooden sculptures hiding in the natural environment.

It is incredibly beautiful here and the wooden walkways allow you to explore and walk all the way around, to see the ducks swimming up and down on the lake.

Kostenets Villa Zone

In the Villa Zone there is a little church, that is used by the villagers on weekends for special prayer. It sits on the perfect vantage point.

From here you can see all of the village and even the Kostenets Town in the distance. You are surrounded by mountains and the silence is only broken by whispering insects or calling birds.

Village Kostenets is one of the most idyllic and relaxing places in Bulgaria.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney - Region Information

View The Harbour Bridge From A Distance - Click To Enlarge Celebrations Along The Harbour - Click To Enlarge The Colours Of Sydney Harbour - Click To Enlarge

The Sydney Harbour Bridge (Sydney's greatest tourism icon) - on a par with San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, New York's Statue of Liberty, London's Tower Bridge and the Eiffel Tower in Paris - took eight years to build and opened in March 1932. Once nicknamed the 'coathanger' it is now simply called 'the bridge' by Sydneysiders.

Linking the city with North Sydney, it carries eight lanes of road traffic and two railway tracks which form part of the city's rail suburban network.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge has a pair of granite clad pylons at each end, they are actually there for show and do not support the great arch which is 530 metres (1650 feet) long and connected to huge hinges tied to bedrock at either end - technically Dawes Point in the south and Milsons Point in the north.

The road and railway track actually hangs from the arch, 59 metres (194 feet) above sea level. Where the Golden Gate suspension system loops down to the centre, the Sydney Harbour Bridge loops up.

At its highest point, the arch is 134 metres above sea level. Taking into account the road approaches, 'the bridge' is 1150 metres or about a mile long. There are 58,000 tons of steel in the bridge, the arch of which was built from both ends and met in the middle.

Steel supports for the road and rail platform were 'hung' beginning at the middle to the pylons. Its two eastern lanes were originally tram tracks, converted when Sydney abolished its trams in the 1950s. The main arch of the Sydney Harbour Bridge is about two feet shorter than the main span of the Golden Gate.

Before it opened, its entire length was packed with railway carriages, trams and buses to test its ability to support a total traffic jam. It was designed to withstand winds of 200 kilometres and hour, which are cyclonic (hurricane) in force and have never been recorded in Sydney.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge has become a major adventure with the opening in 1998 of Bridge Climb, a company which conducts tours over the arch. Clad in overalls and clipped to a safety line, you can walk and climb 1500 metres over the arch.

A challenge for the faint-hearted, the traverse attracted thousands of people in its first year. The climb is open to anyone over 12 who is fit enough to handle some steep climbs on metal ladders and can cope with heights.

The south-east pylon of the bridge includes a lookout for the less adventurous. It includes an exhibition explaining the construction and history of the bridge and offers great views of Sydney Harbour. The entrance is from Cumberland Street at the edge of The Rocks, close to the Shangri-La Hotel.

There are about 200 steps to the lookout, which is enough of a challenge for some. Open daily, The Pylon Lookout is one of Sydney's oldest tourist attractions.

Walkers can cross the Sydney Harbour Bridge on either the eastern or western side. Both walkways are fenced with steel and wire and perfectly safe. They offer great views up Sydney Harbour and the Parramatta River. The eastern side is the more popular, with entrances off Cumberland Street in The Rocks in the south and Milsons Point railway station in the north.

The entrance to the western walkway is near Milsons Point in the north and Observatory Hill in the south (access from Kent Street). You can walk from the city and catch a train back to Wynyard or Town Hall. It takes about 20 minutes to cross the bridge. Bicycles are allowed on the Cycle way which is on the western side of the bridge.

Sydney Harbor Bridge
If you've got a free hour in Sydney, make sure to walk across the Sydney Harbor Bridge. One popular area of the bridge is the Pylon Lookout, where you can see amazing views and even visit a museum. Adventurous visitors can sign up for the climbing expedition, which involves harnessing groups of climbers and scaling the bridge. Different areas of the bridge have different admission fees.

Sydney Aquarium
The Sydney Aquarium is one of the most magnificent found anywhere. Giant rays, nurse sharks, exotic fish, crocodiles, penguins and even rescued seals make their home here. One of the many highlights is the Great Barrier Reef section. It takes about two hours to tour the entire aquarium. Admission costs A$24 for adults, A$12 for children between the ages of 3-15 and A$56 for families.

Great Barrier Reef

Great Barrier Reef Australia
If you have ever heard of Australia, chances are you have seen pictures of the Great Barrier Reef. It not only has become a national backdrop for thousands of photo books and postcards, but it is in fact the largest coral reef in the world. To many, it is a stunning and awe inspiring site, especially when this phenomenon can even be seen in outer space! Nevertheless, it is a place that everyone in their life should visit at least once.

With over three million people visiting this beautiful destination each year, it is no wonder that the Great Barrier Reef is a celebrity. Unfortunately, with so many people inhabiting the area, damage has occurred and pollution has taken over. Since the rise of problems in the reef, the Reef Water Quality Protection Reef Plan has been created.

Although humans have been a large problem to the beautiful reef, marine life has also done its part. For instance, the crown of thorns starfish is the most dangerous predator in the region. Decades ago, this creature has been breaking down and destroying the reef, leaving sea creatures to fend for themselves. Fortunately, breakouts do not occur frequently, leaving the Barrier Reef safe in many instances.

While there are dangers in the Great Barrier Reef, there is also extreme beauty. Green turtles, dolphins and an array of whales live in the area. Still not impressed? Over 4000 types of mollusks also roam the reef looking for food. Regardless of how much you enjoy marine life, it is an amazing thought to think that there are so many types of creatures living there.

Given that the Greet Barrier Reef is infamous for its tourists, it is no surprise that over 400 tour companies bring two million people to the site each year. From cruise ships to island resorts, people come flocking to this destination because it is so stunning. While there are many activities in the area, Reef Water Quality Protection prevents tourists from fishing and walking in certain areas. After all, it is important that the reef stays perfect. By ruining it or having people pollute, it will only cause more problems for the reef itself and the creatures that live there.

For any tourist looking for a beautiful place to wander around, the Great Barrier Reef is certainly it. It is full of lucid blue water and hundreds of colorful fish. Just to have the opportunity to experience this worldwide phenomenon is a dream come true. While it is important to not pollute the area, it is even more important to recognize nature’s beauty. Many tourists enjoy staying as close to the area as possible, since the backdrop is similar to a breath taking picture. Regardless of where you stay in Australia, you must take this trip to the Great Barrier Reef. It is not only an affordable place to visit, but it will give you a new perspective on wildlife, nature, and the beauty of the sea.

Canberra Australia

Canberra Australia
Nestled in the arms of Australia, lies a breathtaking town that possesses as much beauty as Sydney. Canberra offers tourists a wonderful array of activities, from sight seeing to relaxing on the beach. With so many different opportunities to have fun while in this haven, it can be almost impossible to make a list of must sees. Luckily, there are many different ways to choose, according to your hobbies.

If you are looking for an extreme and luscious getaway, Canberra certainly offers this. One of the most popular places to visit is the Corin Forest Mountain Retreat. Interested in bobsledding? Want to zip through the air on a wire for over 350 feet? Corin Forest allows vacationers and residents to enjoy wildlife on a personal basis. With recreational activities at your fingertips, you are able to rock climb and ride the alpine slide. Surprisingly, this type of slide only exists in four other places in the world, thus it is crucial that you experience the thrill. Although it is a long drive to the center, it is extremely scenic and beautiful to glance at.

While physical activities outdoors are great for any family, most vacationers also crave historical monuments. If you are a history buff, chances are you would love to visit the Australian War Memorial. It is not only based in a gorgeous setting, but it is great for visitors to learn about what Australian troops had to endure during these tough times. For this reason, it is extremely educational and tremendous. What is even more inspiring is that every soldier’s name is written on the Roll of Honour.

Want a little excitement while visiting Canberra? Kambah Pool, located in the neighborhood of Tuggeranong, allows visitors to freely swim nude in its river. Embedded between beautiful rocks and scenic landscapes, this river is pure bliss. Most would recommend going between the months of April and August, as it gets very cold when the summer starts to end. Nevertheless, it is a great way for a couple to spice up their vacation, if they are looking for a different kind of adventure.

Hungry yet? Luckily, Canberra offers a large amount of restaurants. From Chinese to traditional food, these eateries are great for any picky tourist. One of the most well-liked restaurants is P.J O’Reilly’s, which consists of basic pub food. Although it gets rather crowded on weekends, the atmosphere is great and diverse. The beer is also extremely unique. Looking for something a little more distinctive? Santa Lucia Trattoria has you covered. With family friendly meals which include pasta and fish dishes, this restaurant brings back customers time and time again. Entertainment is provided every Wednesday and Saturday night, thus providing regulars with a lively and warm atmosphere to mingle in. No matter how fastidious you are, this eatery will surely change your mind.

Brisbane Australia

Brisbane Australia
While most cities in Australia are all about attractions and activities, Brisbane offers a more peaceful alternative. There are dozens of beaches embedded in this city, which makes it extremely easy for any family or vacationer to sit back and relax. Looking for other relaxing endeavors? Brisbane also offers water cruises, which will allow you to see the entire city, without walking for miles and hurting your feet.

If you are ready to hit the beach and soak up the sun, then Brisbane is the ultimate place to be. Moreton Island is a well known area that provides snorkeling and other water activities. What is even more surprising is that this island is not an ordinary beach. With wetlands and lakes, Moreton Island gives vacationers a scenic view, with a lot an abundance of crystal clear water. Want to see dolphins and turtles while you’re swimming? This is the perfect area to do so, even if you don’t want to go too far into the water. From June to November, visitors can also see humpback whales, if they are lucky.

Brisbane is also home to dozens of national parks. For this reason, many vacationers love this city because it is focused around nature. Lamington National Park is one hot spot that has been known worldwide for its lush forests and trails. While the weather can get extremely hot, most residents would recommend taking the bushwalk trail. Here you can experience the cool air, while still enjoying the waterfalls and exotic wildlife. Fortunately, this National Park has different trails, based upon difficulty. If you are traveling with children, you can easily take the level one trail, which will still let you see how beautiful Brisbane really is.

While the nature is overflowing in Brisbane, the food is also tremendous. Petrie’s Bistro offers a wide selection of food for all meal times. If you are looking for a dish that stands out, all of the seafood at Petrie’s is recommended. Want something a little more extravagant? Oxley’s on the River is a perfect alternative. Once a jetty, this restaurant actually is directly on the river, providing a wonderful scenic and romantic view for any couple. While it is particularly stylish, the meals are quite simple. Nevertheless, this does not prevent them from being delicious. From oyster specialties to other sea food dishes, customers can dine as the sun sets. Unfortunately, prices tend to be high, so it’s recommended that you pay attention to the specials. If you are tight on a budget, you can always try a dish that doesn’t include the expensive seafood.

For most travelers, Brisbane is the perfect getaway. It without doubt is one of the most beautiful places in Australia, because it is focused on nature. No matter what you choose to do – whether it is to relax on the beach for your entire stay, or simply sample every restaurant you can find, Brisbane will supply you with elegance and happiness. With luscious beaches and waterfront hotels at your service, you can have the vacation of a lifetime.
