Grand Ole Opry : Nashville, Tennessee

Twangs of country music can be heard filtering through the steamy night air in Nashville, Tennessee. Cheers from the crowd grow louder as the night progresses, until finally the walls are about to burst with life. This is often the scene in the Grand Ole Opry House.

It’s the best of the best as far as country music performers are concerned. Established and popular country music artists today and from years past consider performing on the stage an extremely high honor. Located in the city rich with country music, the building, which is 45,000 square feet, seats an incredible 4,4000 people.

The Grand Ole Opry began as a radio show, broadcasting a variety of country musicians over the airwaves. The show began to take on new artists, including a single performance by Elvis Presley in 1954, and grew and gained popularity at incredible rates, forcing the show to change facilities several times. The show finally moved to the Grand Ole Opry House in 1974. Still today, hundreds of thousands of fans travel from all corners of the world to enjoy the vibrant musical performances of the Grand Ole Opry.

The Grand Ole Opry House is part of the Opry Entertainment Complex. Countless numbers of musical performers have graced its stage, and still continue to do so today. While they do not post a weekly schedule (each night’s lineup is completed just a few days prior to the show), artists are posted on their calendar of events as soon as appearances are confirmed.

Each and every artist to step onto the stage and perform feels it is one of the highest honors in country music. Along with breathtaking concerts, the Grand Ole Opry House also is host to the Country Music Association Awards Show, and is perfect for conventions and business conferences.

Backstage tours are available at the Grand Ole Opry House. On the tour, guests will learn the story of the Grand Ole Opry, as well as gain a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes at the famous performances. Backstage tours are only available when the Opry house is not in use for performances. To inquire about tour availability or to purchase tickets, call 1-800-SEE-OPRY.

Attire to attend the Grand Ole Opry varies. People show up in everything from business suits, dresses and skirts, shirts and ties, to faded jeans and t-shirts. The only rule the facility has is that you have fun in whatever you’re wearing!
