Caribbean Travel Tips

The Caribbean is a popular tourist destination for vacationers seeking a great getaway. Whether you fly to this popular locale or take a cruise ship, there are some general Caribbean travel tips that can make your vacation as enjoyable as possible.

The first part of preparing for your Caribbean vacation is packing. By packing smart, you cannot only ensure you have everything you need, but save yourself a lot of hassle. You’ll want undergarments and a casual outfit for every day, including a few evening ensembles that are suitable for fine dining or dancing. Pack waterproof flip-flops or sandals for walking the beach, as well as comfortable walking shoes like sneakers.

Don’t bring expensive jewelry with you, because there’s always a chance your luggage could get lost or stolen. Keep all currency, medications and identification in a bag or purse you keep with you always. You’ll also want to pack a rain coat or poncho, because unexpected showers are commonplace in the Caribbean.

The most popular time to travel to the Caribbean is of course in the summertime. However, if you choose to travel during this time, be advised that you’ll end up paying more for most everything. To save money it pays to be flexible when it comes to when you travel. Many airlines, cruise lines and travel agencies have great discounts for travelers that vacation during the off season. In places like Aruba, the weather stays warm and beautiful all year-round.

No matter when you choose to travel, make sure to make copies of all your personal travel documents such as your passport and identification. Leave the copies with a family member or friend at home. If you end up losing the original documents, you can request the copies to be sent to you via fax.

Travelers checks are the safest way to spend overseas. If lost or stolen, your travelers checks can be easily replaced with a simple phone call. Credit cards are another good option. However, don’t carry lots of cash, because it’s not as easily replaced.

By preparing well for your Caribbean vacation, you can save yourself a lot of stress and have more time and energy to enjoy your time in the islands. Try our general Caribbean travel tips to help your vacation run as smoothly as possible!
