Spain Cuisine

Spain is well known all over the world for its rich culture and the variety of its regions. You can experience mountains, plains, and beaches all in one visit. Much like the various landscapes you would encounter in Spain, there is a myriad of cuisines for the food-loving visitor to Spain. Spanish cuisine is as varied as its different regions.

A visitor to the region of Andalusia in the South might be surprised at abundance of the oriental-like food. Spices and herbs, honey, and the use of fruits in a lot of dishes are the legacy left by the Moors who conquered this part of Spain. Going East, you definitely have to try the very famous paella, from which the Italians got their risotto. Paella is a rice dish with various meats, vegetables, and seafood mixed with it. Spanish pasta - probably adopted from the Italians - is also a treat not to be missed in the East.

Spain is heaven for seafood lovers. With a large area near the sea, Spain boasts of some of the best seafood around the world. Local attest to the fact that the fisherman’s wharf in Madrid is the best in all of Spain. It’s certainly something you shouldn’t miss!

Get a taste of beans and other fresh vegetables as well as sausages up in the North of Spain. If you a carnivore, preferring roast suckling pig, lamb, and ham, then you would be more than welcome to the interior region of Spain. Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, and Aragon are the best places to visit for such food.

All over Spain, you will find some common dishes. Perhaps one of the most loved is tapas. Tapas are bite-sized dishes perfect for a snack or an appetizer. When dining out, ask for Sopa de Ajo (garlic soup) or Gazpacho as a starter. These two different kinds of soup will certainly warm your stomach.
