Salvador is the capital city of Bahia, a southeastern state of Brazil. It is one of the widely appreciated places in Brazil, which attributes pleasure of travel and enrichment. Salvador has the full name Sao Salvador da Baia de Todos os Santos, which means "Holy Savior of All Saints' Bay". The name of Salvador literally signifies the unique geographic location of Salvador in the peninsular area that separates Atlantic Ocean and Bay of All Saints, called as Baia de Todos os Santos. The elevator in Salvador, called as Elevador Lacerda, first of its kind in Brazil, evokes a curiosity, for an outsider to experience the difference in the geographic terrain. The sea cliff differ the city into Cidade Baixa and 85 ft high Cidade Alta. The neighborhood of Salvador, which includes swamps, mangroves, beaches and islands, is quite appealing for a nature lover.

Cidade Alta is the city center of Salvador, which has a cosmopolitan outlook. Pelourinho is the main center of Salvador, in tourist point of view. It features cobblestone streets, historic churches and colonial buildings, which proudly proclaims the glorious past of Salvador.

Praca da Se and the Terreiro de Jesus are two important squares of in Pelourinho. Museu Afro Brasileiro is the old museum that illustrates the facts about the history of the slave trade prevailed in Salvador. Largo do Pelourinho, also called as Praca Jose de Alencar is the most distinguished area of Salvador, where you can enjoy the clear images of colonial architecture and even nicknamed as “plaza of the pillory.”

Salvador, opens its avenue, also as a way to the neighborhood wonders such as Igreja do Nosso Senhor do Bonfim, one of the important pilgrim centers of Brazil. The church attracts the flow of religious tourists, who are often attracted with the religious beliefs associated with it.

The day trips opportunities include the journey to the outskirts of Salvador, such as Boipeba, Canchoeira, Lencois and the Diamanta Chapada. The visit to the nearby exotic Islands such as Itaparica and Morro de Sao Paulo, are considered as inevitable part of a vacation in Salvador.
