Rio de Janeiro, commonly called as Rio, is a south eastern Brazilian state, and the city in the state adorns the same name. It is not only one of the famous states in Brazil, but also a hot favorite for international tourists.

The popularity of Rio de Janeiro prevails from the earlier dates of colonization that the royal family of Portuguese, had chosen it as the safe place to lead their life in exile, fearing Napoleon’s invasion. Now, the city has grown into a tourist hub, exploiting its geographic potentials and nurturing the traditional values. Cariocas, the inhabitants of the place, are fond to boast their city as “A Cidade Maravilhosa”, which means, “the marvelous city”.

Rio de Janeiro is a well developing city with essential infrastructure facilities. Tom Jobim International Airport, connects Rio de Janeiro with rest of the world. It offers splendid attractions of art, architecture, entertainment, music, cultural ceremonies, sports and natural wonders, which can satisfy the needs of any tourist.

The city also hosts for many International summits, conferences, and other sport events. The adequate interstate transportation facility includes bus, train, cabs, and ferry. Good food, with local and International cuisine, nice accommodation and opportunities for entertainment, makes Rio de Janeiro, a preferred traveler’s spot. The ambience of the tropical humid climate and year round warm temperature is an additional advantage of the destination, Rio de Janeiro.

Beaches are one among the most important attractions of Rio de Janeiro. There are both oceanic and non oceanic beaches. The world class beaches such as Copacabana and Ipanema are clean and well maintained with beautiful pavements for pedestrian walking. The mountain terrain on the boundaries such as Sugar Loaf Mountain provides the excitement of cable car journey and steep traveling.

In addition to the excellence of nature, Corcovado Mountain, feature, a man made landmark, a giant statue of Jesus, renowned in the name, Christ the Redeemer. In addition, the city bags title for the world’s largest urban forest, named Tijuca Forest.

If you are interested in arts and architecture, Rio de Janeiro, won’t let you down. A range of world class museums and art galleries are found in the city including Amsterdam Sauer Museum, Museo Carmen Miranda, Museum of the Republic Museum of Indian, and National war monument. Botanical Garden and International Biochemical Institute are a thrust of any life science savvy.

Saint Benedict’s Monastery and São Francisco da Penitência Church are the places of religiosity. Rio de Janeiro also offers facilities for most of the games, especially beach sports and adventure sports including beach volley, beach foot ball, rowing, sailing, and kite surfing. Rio de Janeiro is one of the most appreciated venues for hand gliding and rock climbing. Maracana Stadium, one of World’s largest stadiums, is also situated in the Rio de Janeiro.

Rio de Janeiro is also popular for its cultural extravaganza. Carnivals, the mesmerism of samba music and dance, often attracts large number of tourists. Carmelitas, Suvaco do Cristo, and Cordao do Bola Preta are some of the famous periodic parades, in the various destinations of the city. The special New Year event in the Copacabana Beach, with the display of crackles, offers a life time memorable experience for a viewer.
