When I purchased this knife I was simply looking for a one handed opening knife to keep in my pocket that would mostly be used as a box cutter at work. I found this one and with the perks of a glass breaker and seat-belt cutter, I really couldn't help but make the purchase.



I have been more than pleased with this knife. It is easily opened and closed with one hand, which is almost ridiculously convenient. The pocket clip has plenty of tension to hold itself in place, while still being able to hook it on with one hand.



The weight of the knife is great, not too heavy and not too light. The weight coupled with the texture of the grip make it easy to hold onto the knife during whatever you are using it for.



I've owned quite a few knives over time, from bowie knives to buck knives, and plenty of folding knives. I can say without hesitation that this has been my favorite folding knife I have ever owned.

I'm the type of consumer who wouldn't have bought a knife if it wasn't for the multitude of benefits this knife provides. When the knife arrived, I was impressed by the solid construction, the fit of it in my hand and the weight, which was very reassuring because I could trust it.



I go camping in remote areas often, and I am in the night often because of my astronomy interests. This knife can sit in my car and be a safety device wherever I go, or it can easily be clipped to my gear and forgotton until I really need it for defense or just a useful tool (often needed when camping).



It's very easy to open with just your thumb. It closes easily, but not so fast as to be frightening.



I did see a review here commenting that the blade is not stainless steel, so I'm curious about that. But, this knife has a lifetime warranty, and unless you're actually a first responder, I think this should work for you to leave in your car and never worry about it not working.

Its a good knife, if you aren't going to be using it as a rescuer. I kept it in the pocket of my turnout gear, but had to take it out. The steel isn't stainless so if it gets water on it, rust spots apear almost instantly. Also, the steel of the blade it soft enought that when I used it to try and tighten up a screw (Yes I know I should have used a screw driver, but on the fire ground you use what you have) the blade chipped all along its lengh. Its gotten moved to my car so I can use it if I have to get out, but its just not tough enough to use to help others. Bottom line - if you're going to be using a knife day-to-day, find something with a hard, stainless steel blade.

I got this knife and was amazed, came razor sharp right out of the box. It was a little smaller then i thought but thats ok. The grip is very well made, but i did find a glue or other dryed substance where the bottom of the blade attaches to the handle, but could probably be scratched off with your finger. And all in all another great knife from Smith & Wesson.

It's a nice knife, but it arrives dull. Overall, the knife feels like a significant, well-made tool, and for $20 shipped seems a good deal. At the same time, it's dull. That can be somewhat easily fixed with 10 or 15 minutes of sharpening, but one wonders why this wasn't done quickly and easily at the factory.

It's a great knife that's balanced really well (balance point is pretty much right on the hand guard). The blade is made of the good 440c stainless steel and not the cheap crappy stuff you see in those $2 stores, the Teflon coated blade is the real deal (not the black paint that some blades try play as Teflon).



The handle is lightweight aluminum with a good grip cover for less slipping and the sheath is genuine leather that fits the blade really well and also allows the knife to be unsheathed without any fuss.

The whole thing is nice and lightweight but still has good strength to be useful in some tough conditions, it's also a good manageable size perfect for a boot knife.



I'd recommend this knife to anyone that needs a good knife for any work even for a collection as this knife suits all needs while still looking great.

My S&W SWAT folding knife is much more impressive but, for $16 and free shipping it's not a bad blade. Not sure what the complaints about the handle are. I'm not Andre the Giant but I'm not Tom Thumb either and the handle seems a decent size. The sheath is nothing to write home about either. It is leather but good leather it is not. Again, for $16 and free shipping it's not a bad blade. The blade certainly isn't ready to shave you right out of the box but a few swipes on a good grade steel and you're ready to go. Over all, this is a pretty useless knife but fun to play around with and again, for $16 and free shipping it's not a bad blade.

plain and simple this knife was awesome. i bought as a gift for a friend of mine since he's going to Iraq, i thought he'd need it. And, he loved it. He would take it every where for a while. The sheeth is very sturdy, but the knife itself is of amazing quality. The blade came pre-sharpened and the hilt was nice and sturdy. And, because it had a rubbery texture to it, you could get a good grip.

 "A pretty good knife so far." 2010-03-20

I am not ordinarily a big fan of folding knives. Locking can break (linerlock), you need to fiddle with triggers and the spring can break (switchblade), why do I have to take so many movements to open this thing? (Butterfly). I am a bigger fan of fixed blades. However, as this is my first linerlock which I have pretty much just taken out of the box, I have a few opening thoughts.

First reason I got it was the insanely low cost. $11 for a knife made by a generally reputable company is a steal. I have a few Gerbers that my father got while he was in the Army 20 or so years ago. When I decided to look around for a knife for me to carry where ever I go that has a little more substance than my keychain multitool, Gerber was the first place I looked. $200 for a knife? I don't have that kind of money and even if I did, why would I spend $200 on something I could get of similar quality at a much lower price? Besides, I was getting my first linerlock (Keep in mind I used to find these confusing. Only a year ago, I asked a person who showed me his "How do I close it?") and I wasn't about to splurge a lot of money on something that I wasn't sure I trusted but more money than a $5 knife from a company that has a bit of a sketchy reputation.

The size is perfect for an everyday carry or any other use. Fits very well into the pocket for a blade that is that long.

The lock seems sturdy and has absolutely no wiggle.

The blade came out of the box satisfactorily sharp and the black modernized tanto blade gives it a good, sturdy design while looking (a very minimal requirement) slick.

The screws that hold it together seem to have a bit of paint chipped off of them, though this hasn't been a problem so far.

All in all, I am very happy with my purchase. Knife of good quality with a price that gives you the confidence to use it rather than leaving it in a sterile box, afraid to break it.



I do have a question for knife buyers more experienced than I. When not using the knife (including carry), is it better to store it with the blade opened or closed?

It stays shut even if you drop it. It has all the edges finished so they do not scratch anything else in your pocket. It is easy to grip even when wet. The blade is sharp. All the screws are recessed. The clip has nicely rounded screws. I left my $150 pocket knife in the drawer.



Question: Why do they no longer provide a belt carrying pouch for these?

 

 "Amazingly Smooth Opening and Tough Blade" 2010-03-18

I rarely review items, but felt I needed to with this one. For ten bucks, I didn't expect much, but this knife is amazing for any price under fifty dollars. It opens so smoothly after a few drops of oil that a slight tap of the thumb almost makes it appear assisted-opening, though it is not (I prefer manual knives, as I don't trust assisted mechanisms that can fail under stress). The blade comes sharp enough to shave my arm with. To get many factory-sharp knives to that point I have to spend several minutes with fine hones and a strop. This one is already straight-razor sharp out of the box. Durability-wise, this thing is tough, too. There is zero wobble in the hinge and lock mechanisms once opened. It is surprisingly light, yet one of the sturdiest folders I have found. I use these blades in my truck and toolbox for utility work, as well as keep one on me at all times as a standard cutting tool for smaller jobs. Value-wise, this is the best knife I have ever seen, dollar-for-dollar, and I have owned several dozen over the years, ranging up to over a hundred dollars a piece. Sure, you might (and I accent the "might") find a tougher blade if you wanted to pay out fifty-plus dollars, but up to that you will not find a better knife. And it's ten bucks, anyway, so what do you have to lose if you don't like it? But I assure you that you won't regret the purchase.

 "Really good knife with an intrinsic design flaw" 2010-03-16

I bought this knife to give to a friend as a birthday present. It is a great knife, and the best part was that it was supposedly made by S&W. It came perfect and razor sharp right out of the box but the first time I flicked it open, the inner lock got stuck and I had to pry it loose with my car keys to get it closed again, which ofcourse scratched the black matte finish.



Upon closer ispection, I realized that the inner lock that holds the blade forward when open was actually SMALLER then the minute gap between the blade and the handle and that what was causing it to catch. To solve this, I simply super-glued a tiny strip of metal to the inside of the handle right next to the pivot where it was getting caught. Problem solved. I can now flick open the blade as hard as I want without any problems at all.



This leads us to the question of why wasn't this design flaw caught? In defense of S&W, a thicker inner lock is exponentially harder to close then a thinner one, and this lock is as smooth as silk. In any case, buy this knife, and make this easy modification and you wont regret your purchase at all.

Just received the S&W knife today. Checked it out and compared it to other knives I own, some costing five times as much, and I will say that this is a real bargain. It has good balance, very decent sharpness right out of the box, and I improved on that a bit with a good stone. The scabbard is of very good quality with a Velcro fastener that goes over the handle. The scabbard has a metal top plate and it fits the knife precisely. It looks and feels like a knife that would cost at least $60.00, so I'm happy.

I bought this very same knife at a sporting goods store here some time back. First of all I have to say I like the size of it, (10 1/2 inches). Its been my experience that too many people go out of their way to buy a hunting or survival knife that is way too big for their needs. Unless you are planning to become the next Jeremiah Johnson you don't need anything as heavy and ungainly as a 15" or bigger knife. Its also been my experience that something smaller comes in far more handy, as well as more efficient in a true crisis situation as well. This knife is large enough to use as a real tool and weapon, without being a liability for most of the same purposes. It is very solidly built with what appears to be a full tang (the blade goes all the way through the handle) design, as well as a very comfortable grip. The blade was sharp when purchased and can be honed to a fine shaving worthy edge when necessary. The blade is also powder finished, meaning it doesn't carry the high gloss look of most other blades available. This has tended to turn some people off in reviews of other knives I have read here, but it shouldn't. A shiny finish on a knife may look really cool when its new. But over time, (if you're one to actually use a knife rather than just wear it to look tough) a glossy finish takes a beating not just during regular use, but from normal sharpening as well. Owning a functional knife that has a high gloss blade is something like owning a black car. They look really awesome when spankin' new, until they get dinged and scratched. Then they look like hell, and every little imperfection becomes quite noticeable. I think if you are one to be considering this knife for any real use, you will come to really like the matte finish over time very much. Finally, a knives sheath is something that usually doesn't get all that much attention in most reviews. Most sheaths are comfortable and adequate. But my own experience over time has been that most also wear out, crack, break, etc, and need replacing many times before the actual knife has seen better days. This knifes sheath is definately an exception. It is reinforced with steel and has a hard inner liner that will see it last for many years. It also uses a Velcro loop at the top to hold the knife straight rather than a snap. This allows the owner to leave it loose or tight to one's personal taste. And it will last longer than a cheap strip of rawhide like so many other knives carry as well. If you're considering a true piece of tough hardware in a knife that will take years of sharpening and use without fail, I highly recommend the Smith and Wesson Bullseye. I have seen knives that cost three times as much that don't carry the same quality...

This knife was cheap enough that I didn't even buy it for any specific reason... I think this knife is such a great value that anyone should own one! While it seems to be an extremely well-made product, it looks rough enough that I won't cry if I drop it on the ground. In fact, I would probably even use it for practice as a throwing knife! The handle grip is not slippery at all, the blade is sharp as hell, and very easy to sharpen once it gets dull. The sheet is made completely out of leather, with a firm metal clip to hold it to your boot. The clip will certainly keep the knife in place unless you pull it off on purpose. The clip that holds the knife in the sheath is quite secure, but also easy to open and close with one finger.



This knife is a great all-around survival/outdoors knife! Totally recommended!

The blade looks and feels as expected. The blade and handle quality are both quite good for the price. The one real gripe I have is that if the blade is opened too quickly/hard, due to the liner lock being thin, it can slip past the back of the blade between the blade and the other handle wall and get stuck.

The knife can be partially closed even when the locking mechanism is engaged. This could happen because there is too much play in the blade position when it is opened and locked, and because the locking spring is just too thin. I am not sure if the knife I got is defective per se - it looks that the locking mechanism is poorly designed.



The limited lifetime warranty is not particularly useful, because it requires the return shipping of $6.95. Adding to that the hassle of shipping the knife to the manufacturer, and given the current price of the knife (~10) it is easier to buy another knife instead of using the warranty.

i bought this knife for everyday carry and use. i love it. it comes out of the box super sharp. the stud is nicely located and easily opened. the blade locks super strong. this knife is great for my daily use. i quite like the pocket clip. it alows the knife to be at my side comfortably. the clip is strong. i have never had it fall off my belt or pocket. i would recommend this knife to anyone who collects knives, or even anyone who wishes to use it as an everyday tool.

I purchased this knife to use as a daily tool, not expecting the razor-sharp edge that a harder (non-stainless) steel blade would hold, but expecting to beat it up a bit and not wanting to pay 6 - 12 times as much for something I would, in all likelihood, ruin. My first impression upon receipt of the knife was, "Wow, this looks great - maybe I shouldn't beat it up!" After carrying it around, every day, for over six months, it has exceeded my expectations and I felt like writing a review to giving S&W props on their solid, low-cost knife. The edge has remained sharp through moderate use (with a single sharpening) and using it to apply light prying pressure a couple of times has not loosened the blade from the handle. A hard/fast flick of the blade, to open it, will sometimes jam the lock to the far side of the blade end, resulting in the knife being jammed open, but is easily fixable with the tip of a key or a coin. My impression now is that it was a great value buy and I will probably pick up another for when I break it.
