First let me say that I do not own this item. My experience with this piece of junk is extensive though, and I want to warn anyone who may be thinking of purchasing it to stay away. As a former instructor at the US Army Noncommissioned Officer Academy, I saw countless students arrive with these thinking that they were ready to tackle the land navigation course. This compass does not perform well under any conditions. They are not accurate. They do not seal out moisture well. They do not hold up to rough handling. They are not self luminous. Maybe you are thinking that you don't need a rugged military spec compass. Maybe you think I am being overly critical because I am a Soldier. Ask yourself what conditions you might be faced with when you need your compass in an emergency. Hot? Cold? Wet? Dark? Rough Terrain? Will you trust your life to a piece of equipment that costs little more than a drive-thru meal? Don't chance it. I wish to issue a CAVEAT about this compass!



While it is in general a fine instrument, the one I received DID NOT have a luminous (aka glow-in-the-dark) dial or luminous cardinal points as the product description on Amazon claims. (The compass' box also makes this incorrect claim.) The ONLY luminous points were the two small dots at the top and bottom of the hairline.



So while it is indeed a good compass, don't buy it if you think you're getting a luminous dial and this is important to you. If not, please go ahead because it is otherwise a fine instrument!



(And as an aside, while this may be because I'm a relative novice at using this instrument, I originally thought the small magnifying lens was to improve the distant sighting view through the hairline. This is not in fact the case and can't happen because its focus is completely wrong for that: the small lens is in fact intended to point downward to magnify the compass dial while you're sighting the distant view. So this is no problem, just something that others may also initially misconstrue.

After doing side-by-side comparisons with the Brunton Polaris, Black Diamond Apollo, and the Coleman Exponent Packaway I decided that this lantern offered the best combination of compact size, brightness (it is THE brightest of the lot) and high-value pricing. While the BD Apollo is smaller and lighter in weight, it is far dimmer in light output. The Rayovac is also the most flexible with a nice bale handle for hanging in a traditional way or setting on a camp table, and a nice clip-hook embedded in the bottom to hang it upside down with the globe removed, as others have noted, for a great high-hanging tent light. D-cell batteries make for higher than average weight in this group but a better option than the Brunton's C-cells which are harder to obtain and used by almost nothing else in your camp. Battery life is very good as you'd expect from D-cell power. Great for car camping where weight is not such as issue. For backpacking, I'd probably go with the Black Diamond and put-up with the lower light output. I just ordered another Rayovac and am giving away my Coleman propane lantern.

I must say that I am quite impressed with what Rayovac has been able to do with this tiny lantern. When I first opened the box I was a little disappointed because the unit was so small but once I got the batteries in and turned it on I was more than impressed. This thing is by far the brightest LED lantern I have seen. It is at least 3 to 4 times brighter than my 24 LED AC Delco lantern that is twice the size. As far the locator light, I happen to like this function. It's nice to be able to quickly locate the lantern in the pitch black of the wild. It would be nice if it could be turned off though. But on the other hand, you should never store your electronics with the batteries inside them. The battery case is indeed a pain to close...until you learn its secret. Once you find out how the cover lines up with the two small pieces of plastic that stick out, it becomes a breeze to close. Now that I know just how good it works I will definitely be ordering a few more (but in all honesty I will probably wait to see if Rayovac fixes the locator light issue).

The misleading about this item is that it expands to 11" to 14.5"inches. This is VERY WRONG. With the legs fully expanded it's about 8" to 8.5" high. My 12oz can of Air spray for the computer is taller. So the disappointment is the Description of it's expandability.

Other wise this tiny bipod is built pretty solid. It is a little bit heavy for it's size which surprised me. I'll probably just use this on my ruger 1022 just for kicks I guess. It took almost 2 weeks to get here so returning it and getting another one will take a month.

Pros: Solid construction, easy switch for the small legs and it's right to left capability.

Cons: Size, really 8" to 8.5"inches

NOT 11" to 14.5"inches

The storage compartment contains a spring so your space batteries don't rattle around inside The main issue I had with the product is that it was a little to small to fit onto my weaver rails. I ended up filing the edges down and it it perfectly, but this might be an indication as to the quality of the piece. Other than that, I have no complaints about the product.

 "Durable bag that works as advertised" 2010-03-01

It's a great bag that I've been taking back and forth every day from school and work for over a year now. It's really held up and don't see that changing anytime soon. The thing I really like is it's simple enough to not get too cluttered, but has enough pockets / zippers to keep stuff reasonably well organized.



My only complaint is the shoulder strap doesn't hold at all. First of all the metal ring that holds it on the adjustable side gradually slips until it is vertical (it's kind of hard to describe in words) not horizontal like it should be which causes the strap to get all bunched and subsequently start loosening -- at least it did on mine. I rigged up a little clasp with an old bobby pin and twist ties from the junk drawer soon after I got got the bag and it hasn't been a problem since.



If it wasn't for having to fix the strap I would definitely have given it 5 stars and even with the "problem" I would definitely buy another one, though I don't think I'll have to do that for a while because it's made to last.

I purchased the Olive Drab version of this bag. Even though it has not been a great deal of time since my purchase (only a few days, as a matter of fact), I was very pleased with what I received. I was looking for simplicity: something I could use as a means of carrying my school supplies around campus instead of dealing with an abysmal traditional backpack. I can say that this bag fit my needs perfectly. The simplicity of the design is wonderful and very functional for a carrying bag. In fact, I would have been perfectly fine without a velcro strip, especially since I plan on avoiding it (however, those of you that are looking to use the velcro, the strips really only line up if the bag is rather full). The full description of the bag may be found below.



The strap is nice and wide to allow as much comfort as possible. There is one large main compartment for large items, with a small zipper pouch sewn in as an extra flap (a little pointless in my opinion, but still could be useful); two decent sized pockets on the front of the bag and two smaller compartments on the sides, all for convenient storage for "ready-at-hand" items; and, of course, the large flap that covers the large compartment and two front pockets.



Like I said, the only downside to be considered with this bag are the velcro strips, but I have no intention of using them. That is only personal opinion, of course. However, I find that this bag is perfect for any university student that is constantly moving from area to area of campus, especially since the bag is very lightweight for less burden while walking longer distances. It was a fantastic buy and I recommend it to anyone looking to pick up a messenger bag.

I have taken them out shooting several times now and its phenomenal how well they work, exactly as you would want. My only complaint is not a complaint when you adjust so you can hear voices if you put it above 3/4 it's very loud from the amplification. Shuts down loud noises before you can even notice. These are great for slightly more than some standard non electronic. These are very comfortable to wear for extended periods. You won't be sorry if you buy these. I am a shooter and purchased this product with high hopes because I needed effective hearing protection on the indoor range. I installed the batteries correctly and thoroughly read the instructions before use. They worked great. For all of 5 seconds that is. After I turned up the volume, I heard a loud explosion and the entire top ridge assemblage had broken in pieces, and rendered the product useless. I returned the product to Amazon with a letter and they gave me a partial refund since it was beyond the 30 day return window. It might have been a one in a million product defect, but I would not endorse this particular product model to my fellow shooters.

This product has two main virtues: It is compact to store and comfortable to wear for long periods. I use the earmuffs only for shooting. Out doors it does a good job of muffling shotgun and rifle reports. Indoors on the pistol range it does NOT do an adequate job. It may protect your ears, but the noise level is just high enough to be uncomfortable and annoying, even at maximum damping. The amplification feature is very good and communication with the muffs on is effortless.
