I thought these would be "OK" for the price compared to some of the high dollar versions available. I have taken them out shooting several times now and its phenomenal how well they work, exactly as you would want. My only complaint is not a complaint when you adjust so you can hear voices if you put it above 3/4 it's very loud from the amplification. Shuts down loud noises before you can even notice. These are great for slightly more than some standard non electronic. These are very comfortable to wear for extended periods. You won't be sorry if you buy these. I've been recommending them to all my friends

Great purchase, My son bought a pair of these at a gun show and I've wanted a pair ever since. I got a much better deal on amazon than he did. These electronic muffs are a must for the avid shooter. I am a shooter and purchased this product with high hopes because I needed effective hearing protection on the indoor range. I installed the batteries correctly and thoroughly read the instructions before use. They worked great. For all of 5 seconds that is. After I turned up the volume, I heard a loud explosion and the entire top ridge assemblage had broken in pieces, and rendered the product useless. I returned the product to Amazon with a letter and they gave me a partial refund since it was beyond the 30 day return window. It might have been a one in a million product defect, but I would not endorse this particular product model to my fellow shooters.

This product has two main virtues: It is compact to store and comfortable to wear for long periods. I use the earmuffs only for shooting. Out doors it does a good job of muffling shotgun and rifle reports. Indoors on the pistol range it does NOT do an adequate job. It may protect your ears, but the noise level is just high enough to be uncomfortable and annoying, even at maximum damping. The amplification feature is very good and communication with the muffs on is effortless.

I bought these for my wife. I was originally going to get her a pair of Peltor Tactical 6s electronic earmuffs because I had ALWAYS heard high praise for them--and I use a pair of Tac 7s myself, which I'll never give up--but then I read some of the negative reviews on the Amazon product page (I wonder how many are schills?). So based on the negative Amazon reviews and the meager NRR 19, I opted to pass on the 6s. I'm not sure how I stumbled onto these Howard Leight earmuffs, but they looked good on paper and the reviews were mostly positive, and I'm very familiar with, and confident in, the Howard Leight name, so I figured why not?



Before buying these, my wife had been previously using the Howard Leight Leightning-31 earmuffs (non-electronic, NRR 31), so I was _really_ worried about the drop in NRR with her. We went to an indoor range yesterday and shot a .40SW pistol (the .40SW has a sharp pressure spike, and hence percussion wave, and being indoors amplifies things, so this was a really good test of the earmuff's effectiveness). After we were done she said that she "likes" these muffs, and "has no problem" with them. They're a keeper! She did have one complaint. She says that they squeeze her head too tightly (not uncomfortably, just a tighter, snugger fit than she's used to) and interfere with her eye protection. We both understand that the tight fit is necessary to seal the ear, so that's not a problem in our minds, but she says she "needs to figure something out" w.r.t. the shooting glasses because that bugs her.



Of course, I tried these muffs out also. I gotta admit, for the price they are pretty darn good. The amplification is above average and you can hear normal conversation easily. They cut out when they should, but the recovery time after a shot is slow (that bothers other people a lot more than it does me). Come to think of it, the power-on time is pretty darn slow, too. Regardless, these muffs are another winner in the Howard Leight product line as far as I'm concerned.



However, whenever a review includes the phrase "for the price", that should raise a flag (IMO); i.e. you gotta look at the big picture as well as the niche. Yes, these are excellent hearing protectors for the price, but overall they're not all that great in comparison to other models on the market. They do their job, though.



Since these are not marketed as "tactical" earmuffs, an LED power indicator would have been nice. My wife will eventually get used to having to turn off her hearing protection, but a power indicator as a reminder wouldn't hurt. On the plus side, these muffs have an automatic shut-off feature to compensate for forgetfulness.



The included instructions are minimal and poorly written. Case in point, they tell you to insert the batteries into the battery compartment, but don't tell you how to open the battery compartment! [Slide the lid vertically toward the headband.] A little common sense goes a long way here.



Bottom line: All babble aside, I'd recommend these earmuffs. Based on my wife's input and my short exposure to them, I think they do an adequate job; and yes, the cost-effective pricing is hard to ignore.

My husband asked me to buy the earmuffs so that he could block out the noise in the high school woodshop where he teaches three classes on a daily basis.

He says that he's very pleased with them. They are adjustable so that they fit his head comfortably. In the future he would like to get a radio or an ipod or some kind of music machine to plug into the earmuffs.

This product is GREAT for shooters. It REDUCES load noises while it allows you to hear normal voice commands and conversation. It does not turn off sounds...only muffles the load sounds. So make sure you are buying these for that purpose.

Does everything it claims, even better. I use a hammer drill and shop vac at work for a minute or two, then not again for ten. It's perfect for this type of work, because I don't have to take them of, find them again to put them on, off, on, off, on, etc. It blocks out the vacuum and hammmer drill noise, but amplifies my coworkers voice. Totally USEFULL for my needs. I Hope they last a few years.

These muffs work perfectly in a shooting environment which is what they were purchased for. They do not shut out the sound and leave the wearer with a delay in the return of hearing. They effectively reduce the decibel level without blanking out sounds. The sound enhancement of small sounds is excellent. These muffs are preferable to more expensive models that I have examined.
